A lifetime in the waiting...

Some things are worth waiting for.

I must have been close before…

But it had never happened.

We met a chap who told us where to look…

It will never happen tho’…

It never does…

For me.

Walking back to the car, chatting to Hilary…

“Shall we have a look?”

It won’t happen tho…

It never does

For me.

“No, I’ve never have actually seen one before.”

“Well, we’re here now.”

Nothing to lose.

By the carpark, near the yew tree - I think that’s what he said…

Oh my God…

“There…

look there…

there it is!”

I can’t believe it…

I leap in the air as if I have scored the winning goal…

taken that wicket…

dropped one right through the uprights…

Boom!

There… look…

Dangling like a precious Christmas decoration…

Twinkling as bright as any jewel in any crown.

Fluorescent green with a flash of blood orange…

And that bright white stripe…

above its beady wee black eye…

A lifetime in the waiting…

My first Firecrest.
